Wow, John’s economics rise to a level of ignorance in this episode (and in a previous episode of NoAgenda–the best podcast in the universe) that’s truly difficult to describe. His equating the gold rush with the passing out of trillions of debt backed paper is laughable unless people were just walking around picking up gold off the street.

Instead, the discovery of gold led to the creation of a gold extraction industry. People sold land, shifted money from their savings, and put off other purchases to buy tools and gear to extract gold. They then paid money to move West, creating a Gold Rush travel industry. They also left behind their old jobs creating opportunities for those who stayed.

If the government had just dumped a bunch of gold into the market, there would have been inflation. Once the banks release the money they’ve been hoarding there will be inflation here as well.

The fact that we haven’t had hyperinflation yet isn’t proof that we won’t or that QE Ad Infinitum/Nauseum is working. It’s a like saying you’re a good drunk driver because you’ve never had an accident while driving drunk.

You’ve both got to work on listening to each other more and mtieeng each other half way. You’re both being too defensive that leads to the arguments. Plus it helps to get out your points then walk away and give each other time to digest it. If one of you tries this, I think the other will follow. The more you see your partner acknowledging your side, the more you’ll want to acknowledge theirs.
