I'm on the side that Andrew seems to fall on: I do not believe all the Al Gore nonsense, I think this is just self-serviing politics, but it probably makes sense to be conscious and innovate, if for no other reason that we do not want a dependency on Arab oil.

And yes, I do hate SOX...

I think with respect to global warming the simplest answer is likely the right answer.

I've read the earlier comments that do not think global warming is real. Each of then refer in some way to the fact that people and for that matter all oxygen breathing animals emit Co2 and yes plant life uses it.

The argument that appears to be ignored is
What about the things we made that produce CO2, for example the gas engine, burning coal, burning garbage that contain man made products like plastic.

Without man these things would not have been introduce to an ecosystem that was not designed to process is.

Also consider we use way more resources from the envirnment that we NEED so that we can have a better quality of life.

The space we use and plant life we remove just intuitively tell me that we can not be having no effect on tha environment, and to beleive so is putting your head in the sand and self serving.

Obviously, volcanic activity can belch out orders of magnitudes more greenhouse gases than human activity ever could. If some kind of massive supervolcanic eruption were to occur the oceans would acidify and life, human life included, would end as we know it. It's happened before: see the "great dying"

But barring any such catastrophic event, it is reasonably logical to say that humans are dumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere by their activities, especially by burning fossil fuels. These gasses are accumulating in our atmosphere. Decades of measurements show this.

Couple that with the data that shows our oceans are getting warmer and our icecaps are melting beyond anything that has ever been measured before.

Has the gas we've created caused this current global warming? Unknown exactly, but by any model a continuation of the accumulation of these gasses will warm up the planet even further.

John's probably right in that there are a lot of people trying to capitalize on the fear mongering about global warming. But the way I see it is that if you can clean up the air then you should be obligated to do so. Why should we all be forced to breathe in the contaminants that are spewed out of coal-burning power plants if there are cleaner methods of producing energy? And why should we breathe in the contaminants from oversized internal combustion engines if there are more efficient vehicles available?

It's all pollution and we should strive to reduce it as much as possible. And if that happens to stop global warming then that will be a welcome added bonus.

Global = Scam. Show me the real data. They can not even tell me the weather next week with any reliability. How can they tell me the weather 30, 50 or 100 years from today. Nope I did not drink the Kool-Aid.

Is global warming real and manmade? Global warming is real, but the jury is out on the manmade part for me. I don't think it matters in terms of some obvious actions we should take, the chief being to find a clean renewable energy source. I'm against stupid actions like cap and trade that are just a hidden way to tax businesses and pour money into politician pockets.

“Is Global Warming real?”

yes but it is happening on other planets as well (and has happened here before the dawn of mankind) so It's not man related at all :p

Global warming is true. But, is it man fault nobody really knows. It global warming bad for humans, no consider the majority of humans live between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. It is not bad for us since humans mostly like warm weather.
