I’m actually kind of stunned you guys are so soft on Global Warming. It’s been outted time and time again as a fraud. I blog on the madness everyday. Enjoy the show.

“Is Global Warming real?”
Right out of the gate, you are asking the question totally wrong. You need to ask: “Is Anthropogenic Global Warming real?” meaning “Is human caused Global Warming real…
The answer is flatly NO. But let me back that up some…
Based on emissions numbers from 2007, human beings BREATHE out 1/5 of what ALL industry emits… Where this gets REALLY interesting is when you remember that we are FAR from the only oxygen breathing thing on the planet. All things that breathe oxygen exhale/emit CO2.
So when we keep that in mind…
Ants. Ants are so plentiful that it is estimated that they at least MATCH the biomass of all humans. Going on from there, there are over 5400 mammalian species alone and they ALL exhale CO2. If all of them alone only emit the same as humans x 1000, then we are saying that JUST the mammals of the planet emit 200 times what industry does. This likely WAY under for mammals and it does not take into consideration the 10s of MILLIONS of other species on the planet.
Other things to keep in mind are the discoveries like:
- Plant matter emits methane WHILE still alive and not just while rotting.
- Cloud cover is GREATLY affected by Galactic Cosmic Rays and that more reach earth when the Sun is less magnetically active. Less GCRs means less clouds so the greatly elevated solar magnetic activity for the last 35 years has directly reduced cloud cover and thereby reduced cloud albedo due to there being less clouds.
- About 75% of all ground based temperature monitoring stations in the USA alone are totally outside the standards for positioning and maintenance.
- The polar bear population is GROWING and DOUBLING.
- The temperatures during the Medieval Warm Period were MUCH warmer than they are now.
I could go on, but I believe you see that there is a GREAT deal of lies and deception even without the CRU email leak (Yes, it was a LEAK, not a hack).
Climate change is real and natural. Warming is a part of it just as much as cooling. The REAL issue is that COLD (REALLY cold) is the natural state of the planet on a geological scale so we are FAR wiser to fear cold than to fear hot. Cold has killed FAR more than heat ever has.
Oh…
I should point out that I do greatly enjoy this podcast and have been listening since ep #13.
Great stuff overall… Keep it up…
The questions of global warming boils down to a couple questions for me.
1) Do we know that greenhouse gasses exist and cause temperature change? Yes
2) Are humans changing the composition of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere? Yes
So, yes I believe human caused global warming is real. However it doesn’t neccesarily means warm is always worse, or everyone is going to die or anything like that. What we need to talk about is quality of life and costs in the future.
We need to have an honest discussion about what are acceptable risks and consequences involved with inaction or what level of action is worthwhile.
But I agree that cap and trade looks like a terrible solution to the problem. I would rather use much more carrot. If we can make alternative energy cost competitive (which some already is and more is if we look at total cost of the energy) then everyone will choose it.
I don’t think either extremes of the issue are right (like most issues), but I am sick of the attack on science. The beauty of science is that there are no absolute truths, everything is up for debate and any climate skeptic can gather data and present it. America will continue to suffer more as we become a nation of lawyers and bankers, as opposed to a nation of scientists and engineers.

Global warming is true. But, is it man fault nobody really knows. It global warming bad for humans, no consider the majority of humans live between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. It is not bad for us since humans mostly like warm weather.
“Is Global Warming real?”
yes but it is happening on other planets as well (and has happened here before the dawn of mankind) so It’s not man related at all :p
Is global warming real and manmade? Global warming is real, but the jury is out on the manmade part for me. I don’t think it matters in terms of some obvious actions we should take, the chief being to find a clean renewable energy source. I’m against stupid actions like cap and trade that are just a hidden way to tax businesses and pour money into politician pockets.

Global = Scam. Show me the real data. They can not even tell me the weather next week with any reliability. How can they tell me the weather 30, 50 or 100 years from today. Nope I did not drink the Kool-Aid.
Obviously, volcanic activity can belch out orders of magnitudes more greenhouse gases than human activity ever could. If some kind of massive supervolcanic eruption were to occur the oceans would acidify and life, human life included, would end as we know it. It’s happened before: see the “great dying”
But barring any such catastrophic event, it is reasonably logical to say that humans are dumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere by their activities, especially by burning fossil fuels. These gasses are accumulating in our atmosphere. Decades of measurements show this.
Couple that with the data that shows our oceans are getting warmer and our icecaps are melting beyond anything that has ever been measured before.
Has the gas we’ve created caused this current global warming? Unknown exactly, but by any model a continuation of the accumulation of these gasses will warm up the planet even further.
John’s probably right in that there are a lot of people trying to capitalize on the fear mongering about global warming. But the way I see it is that if you can clean up the air then you should be obligated to do so. Why should we all be forced to breathe in the contaminants that are spewed out of coal-burning power plants if there are cleaner methods of producing energy? And why should we breathe in the contaminants from oversized internal combustion engines if there are more efficient vehicles available?
It’s all pollution and we should strive to reduce it as much as possible. And if that happens to stop global warming then that will be a welcome added bonus.
I think with respect to global warming the simplest answer is likely the right answer.
I’ve read the earlier comments that do not think global warming is real. Each of then refer in some way to the fact that people and for that matter all oxygen breathing animals emit Co2 and yes plant life uses it.
The argument that appears to be ignored is
What about the things we made that produce CO2, for example the gas engine, burning coal, burning garbage that contain man made products like plastic.
Without man these things would not have been introduce to an ecosystem that was not designed to process is.
Also consider we use way more resources from the envirnment that we NEED so that we can have a better quality of life.
The space we use and plant life we remove just intuitively tell me that we can not be having no effect on tha environment, and to beleive so is putting your head in the sand and self serving.
I’m on the side that Andrew seems to fall on: I do not believe all the Al Gore nonsense, I think this is just self-serviing politics, but it probably makes sense to be conscious and innovate, if for no other reason that we do not want a dependency on Arab oil.
And yes, I do hate SOX…
