  2. Pedro Amaral says:

Always a pleasure to listen to — especially in a chaotic world. The “where is my stock tip” idea is bold and attractive. Good luck with it.

  3. mcteapot says:

use google wave and tie it into your google docs idea to show your stock pick idea!

  4. Another great listen guys, thanks for taking the time to do this and for the excellent discussion.

    A couple of points:

Be careful of investing too much time, at least in the short term, developing sophisticated models on Google spreadsheets. Many users including me have had issues using the @market functions where you get a sheet of blank cells displaying “updates pending” that sometimes never refresh for hours or days. Also, the stated limit on these data functions is limited to 250 per spreadsheet, which is easily exhausted on a small portfolio if you are tracking 40-50 stocks with data on volume, price, hi-lo price info, etc. Hopefully they’ll fix this soon.

Could the increase in the price of lead be attributable to speculation on the expected ramp-up in the production of bullets to be used with the 30K troop deployment to Afganistan?

Tracking stocks is a great idea and depending on how much explanation you give for your tips, will be a great teaching aid as well as an ideas generator for your listeners. I don’t know how much work it would take to be able to do the following but this is my wish list for this service.
When you make a stock tip, could the data to support it be split into the 3 “considerations” of Quanta Techna Funda? So let’s take the DISCA tip as an example. If you use your existing page and make the “Thesis” column a link to an additional page, this new page could be populated with the “key indicators” making up the Quanta and Techna analysis and any relevant observations as a brief note for Funda which would support or contradict your tip. This way novice investors like myself could begin to understand the process and learn to read the data for ourselves. I know this may be a little more work than you perhaps intended to do so let me, or more accurately all your users, do the leg work of filling in the various bits of information and then simply have you provide a commentary (or decode) on how to use the data. I know the expectation is that everyone should be doing this for themselves before buying or selling based on your tips but a collaboration would provide a number of benefits including the following; any errors are sure to be identified and corrected and a single repository would provide a manageable source for you to be able to comment on and help your listeners develop their skills.
As a starting point, is there some type of template of the “key indicators” which should be appraised? If not I would be happy to begin the process by creating one based on my interpretation of TDI book and send it to you for corrections/amendment. If a template is possible and does prove useful, perhaps people could begin to apply it to other stocks and interesting examples of good and bad companies could be posted for you to provide feedback. With the whole world (ok, just your listeners) applying the disciplines you teach to the stock universe, could it become mutually beneficial or will you simply become flooded with millions of people asking you to look at their “homework”? Perhaps this in itself could become a point of teaching, how to sort the nonsense stocks from the potentials.
Do I ask too much of a free service? :) I have just finished Jeff Jarvis’ book, could this be “the Google way” to buy stocks? Thanks for a great show.

  6. I think the idea is great, just maybe don’t stray TOO far from your original format of two guys just talking about random stuff though. You also have the more serious TDI podcast which I would imagine most of us here listen to as well.

  7. Liana Riley says:

I am not too much into the stock tips I more like listening to how you interrupt the financial news around the world and random discussions. Either a segment at the end or another premium feed would be great for the people interested.

    Otherwise, love the show.

  8. Tanya says:

I really like the spreadsheet idea, and I have a suggestion — as an employee of a firm that requires clearance of every stock trade I make for my own personal portfolio (making it kludgy to trade individual stocks), I would love more discussions of ETFs and/or mutual funds in the podcast. I realize the podcast is not a ’stock-picking’ or ‘investment suggestions’ thing, but it would be great to hear more about these type of investments as they relate to the general movement(s) of the market. Thanks for the very informative podcast John and Andrew!

  9. Bibi says:

I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

Good posting. I thank you for posting that. Please accept my apology for my less good English Skills, I am from Germany and it is kind of new to me.
